When I was young, before I poured my heart and passion into music, I always wanted to be an actress. I did my first real play at 9, even performing at a theatre festival, and climbed on to every stage I could till my 21st – when music came along and my focus shifted. I couldn’t get into acting schools, which broke my heart a bit, but music came along and offered a similar space where I could pour even more of myself into. Ain’t it funny how old loves like these can make their way back into your life later on?
The last few months I’ve been building a whole EP for the character that I will play in ‘Vengeance’, a theatre play on sexism, intimidation, power structures and bystanders. A subject that hits home. And though the structure of writing songs for an already scripted story was a different starting point, the lyrics just flew out of me. The most special part? I get to sing them myself whilst playing the role of Donna.
We’ll be performing in Rotterdam, Den Haag, Amsterdam and Utrecht. Come see the play or read the review by Theaterkrant here.
Small note: the play is in Dutch, the songs are in English.
